Description
Author Donna DiGiuseppe, tells the dramatic story of Sofonisba Anguissola (c.1535-1625) a Lombard portraitist who was mentored by Michelangelo and praised by Giorgio Vasari. As a lady in waiting at the Spanish court of Philip II, she painted the Spanish Habsburg reign from her singular personal perspective. In later life, she traveled the Mediterranean, painted the Medici court, mentored Rubens and Anthony van Dyck, and influenced generations of future artists. Then history forgot her.
Donna DiGiuseppe was inspired by her Italian roots to write about a historic Italian woman and discovered the live of Sofonisba Anguissola. Ms. DiGiuseppe studied the northern Italian Renaissance at the University of California, Berkeley and Sofonisba Anguissola for her master’s thesis at San Francisco State University.
