A Glimpse of Sardinia
February 23, 2025 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Join the Museo for a Glimpse of Sardinia. This enriching lecture is part of our Regional Sunday series.
Glimpse just a bit of Sardinia’s majesty and explore the indescribable beauty of Sardinian handwoven textiles in this short adventure into the Mediterranean island’s art, culture, and heritage. Kelly Manjula Koza, founder of Sardinian Arts, will share photos, film clips, and stories of the island with a focus on the tessitrici artigianali — the unique women weavers who maintain Sardinia’s ancient handweaving tradition, artfully expressing the Sardinian spirit through their work and textiles.
Woven one at a time on looms powered entirely by hand and foot, Sardinian handwoven textiles are technically precise, astonishingly beautiful, and possess an unquantifiable essence that serves as a portal to something we seek yet may not be able to describe. Feel this in the textiles from Samugheo, Nule, and Aggius that will be displayed during the event.

Bio – Kelly Manjula Koza
Kelly founded Sardinian Arts in 2013 as an expression of her great appreciation and respect for handweaving, Sardinia, and the tessitrici artigianali — the women who maintain the art of traditional Sardinian handweaving. Kelly seeks to preserve, protect, promote, encourage, and advance the “tessitrici artigianali” and the arts, culture, heritage, land, economy, and people of Sardinia in a sustainable manner. While not Sardinian by birth, Kelly considers Sardinia the home of her heart, and dreamed often of the island as a child.
