Lou Dematteis – A Journey Back

Join Us for a Presentation by Lou Dematteis
San Francisco-based photographer and filmmaker Lou Dematteis will present photographs from his recently published book, “A Journey Back/ Un Viaggio di Ritorno.” This book features images from his traveling photography exhibition of the same name and serves as a visual diary of the time Dematteis spent living and traveling in Italy from 1972 to 1980. Through his lens, he documented Italian daily life, culture, and political scenes.
As a former staff photographer for Reuters News Pictures, Lou Dematteis has covered issues of social, political, and environmental importance around the world. His photographic journey began with his travels to Italy. In addition to his photography, he produced and directed the award-winning documentary film Crimebuster: A Son’s Search for His Father, which portrays his late father, the influential Italian American crime fighter and jurist Louis B. Dematteis.
