About the Artist

Shepp, Alan

American
b. 1935 Cleveland, Ohio

Alan Shepp (whose family name was changed from Sieppe) was born in Cleveland to Italian American parents originally from Campobasso, the capital city of the Molise region. Shepp lives in Napa, California, and is a multimedia artist who creates large scale sculpture and public art. Movement and light have been important elements in his artwork throughout his career, and no less so, when he decided in the mid-1970s to focus his creativity on sculpture in stone. He has a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA from the University of Washington. His art can be found in the collections of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Oakland Museum and in numerous corporate collections.
