About the Artist
b. 1925 Sicily
d. 2015 CaliforniaJohn Mancini was born in Sicily and educated at Columbia University before moving to California in1958. He worked as a technical illustrator, including making illustrations for NASA’s Apollo program. He enjoyed painting landscapes that captured the Italian countryside in a modern, studied and colorful style. His emphasis on geometry and the simplicity of his landscapes recall De Chirico’s and Hopper’s style of scene-making, yet he always maintained his own identity.
