b. 1946Sandro Chia was born in Florence and studied at both the Istituto d’Arte and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. During the 1970s, Chia exhibited throughout Italy and Europe and eventually changed his style from the conceptual toward a more figurative focus. Chia has been a part of the Italian Transavanguardia movement and has shown his work in many important museums across the world including the Metropolitan Museum of New York and the Palazzo Medici in Rome. Today he is still producing work while living in Rome, Miami and the wine country of Montalcino, Tuscany.
